LARGE M. DOROTHY DOLPH ORIGINAL PAINTING
(Item: 018MDD)
Wonderful very large painting by M. Dorothy Dolph, purchased in 1941 by a Wyoming woman for $27.50 cash, where it remained until a few years ago when that womans estate was settled. We have the original letter that was writted by Mrs. Dolph that states the agreed upon price, that also included the shipping. The letter was sent from Hood River, Oregon. This painting is very large for Mrs. Dolph in that most of her works were miniatures because they were perfect for the tourist to buy and pack into their suitcases. The painting is a very beautiful Wyoming scene with the large herd of wild horses running down the side of a mountain. There are a few minor chips in the paint next to the signature.
M. Dorothe Dolph was born and raised in Baraboo, Wisconsin, Marie Dorothy Dolph (1884 - 1979) painted until she was 94, mostly of Wyoming ranches and landscapes, the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Mount Hood, Oregon sights, and the deserts of California and wildlife including buffalo and wild horses. Dolph lived for a number of years outside of Casper, Wyoming near the famed Goose Egg Ranch with her husband Royal Dolph. She would paint through the harsh Wyoming winters and travel to Yellowstone National park to sell her creations to the tourists.
Dolph is listed in Dowdy's, Who's Who, Davenports etc., and is only one of two listed Wyoming women artists.
