Biden to be joined by family at Camp David for long-planned photo shoot on the heels of poor debate performance

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, alongside granddaughters Natalie, left, and Finnegan, second from right, make their way to board Air Force One before departing McGuire Air Force Base in Burlington, New Jersey on June 29. Biden is heading to the Camp David presidential retreat where he was expected to spend the rest of the weekend.

President Joe Biden will be joined by members of his family at Camp David over the weekend for a long-planned photo shoot, multiple sources said, on the heels of a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump that has thrust his campaign in turmoil and set off widespread panic among Democrats.

While the family is expected to discuss the events of the past week, multiple senior advisers insisted to CNN on Saturday that the gathering was not aimed at discussing whether the president would remain in the race — even as he is facing immense pressure from some to drop out. Publicly, White House and campaign aides — and the president himself — have all maintained sinceThursday’s debate that there is no question that Biden will remain in the race.

Still, it is well known that Biden’s family, more so than his closest advisers, holds significant influence over decisions regarding the president’s political future. Despite senior Biden advisers stressing that the weekend gathering was not intended to discuss whether Biden will seek a second term, nothing would preclude the family from ultimately having such conversations in private.

The family is expected to be photographed by renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz, one senior Biden official told CNN. Biden’s children and grandchildren are expected to be at the presidential retreat, a separate source familiar with the gathering said.

The same source said it was planned going back as far as March. Another senior Biden official said in the aftermath of the debate, the president has not wavered and believes he is the best candidate to defeat Donald Trump in November.

Harris says Biden’s debate performance wasn’t his “finest hour”

From CNN's Ebony Davis

Vice President Kamala Harris admitted at a Los Angeles fundraiser that President Joe Biden’s debate performance wasn’t his “finest hour,” but argued a clear contrast was shown between him and Donald Trump.

In herlatest rush to Biden’s defensefollowing Thursday’s debate, Harris painted Trump as a “threat to democracy” during remarks at a Biden Victory Fund event hosted at the private residence of filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, in Brentwood.

Harris emphasized that the stakes of the election are higher than ever and made the case that “none of that changed because of a day in June.”And she touted the Biden administration’s record, specifically on women’s reproduction rights, student debt, and health care.

The fundraiser was billed as a Pride-themed garden party honoring the anniversary of the end of Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage in California.

Harris reflected about the day Proposition 8 was overturned and the “heart and pain that for years went into this movement.” She highlighted that ongoing attacks on LGBTQ+ rights are closely intertwined with attacks on voting rights and reproductive rights.

Biden faced fallout from his debate performance as he met with donors Saturday. Here's what happened

From CNN's Kaanita Iyer

President Joe Biden spent Saturday seeking to reassure donors at East Coast fundraisers that he’s still the best choice to beat former President Donald Trump as concerns over his candidacy swirled following Thursday’s debate.

When Biden arrived in East Hampton, New York, on Saturday afternoon, he was immediately met with a group of protesters urging him to withdraw from the race. One sign read: “We love you but it’s time.”

Biden acknowledged his poor performance at CNN’s presidential debate, but he attempted to motivate his donors by contrasting himself with his predecessor.

“Donald Trump will destroy democracy, and that’s not hyperbole. I will defend it,” Biden said, calling the former president a “genuine threat.”

At a Red Bank, New Jersey, fundraiser shortly after, Biden said he understands concerns following the debate. “But I’m going to be fighting harder,” he said, attempting to reassure donors.

Donors are split on how to move forward. While some are slamming any pressure urging the president to step aside, others are arguing that the fallout from the debate should be more closely examined.

Another group is calling on Democrats to immediately begin the process of seeking a new nominee. But one senior Democratic adviser to the Biden campaign told CNN, “A true succession plan does not exist.”

Adding to fallout, the Atlanta Journal Constitution’s editorial board on Saturday urged Biden to withdraw from the race, joining the New York Times’ editorial board, which did so Friday.

Democratic donors stress over path forward after Biden’s debate performance

President Joe Biden participates in a debate with former President Donald Trump at CNN's Atlanta studios on June 27.

Less than 48 hours after President Joe Biden’s alarming debate performance, the Democratic donor class is in crisis, racked by anxiety over what — if anything — the party’s wealthiest backers can do to reinvigorate or replace Biden, whose campaign has commissioned new polling to assess the damage.

The vast universe of wealthy Biden backers and their political whisperers has split along three lines:

  • One faction is arguing that a pressure campaign urging the president — who has been adamant he will not step aside — to drop out would be a self-defeating nonstarter.
  • Another is calling for a middle-of-the road approach, saying party leaders should consider drastic steps only after the fallout from Thursday night is more closely examined.
  • A third group of donors and advisers, with fewer direct ties to Biden world and less influence within it, is proactively calling on Democrats to quit wasting time and immediately begin the process of seeking out a new nominee.

Democrats are conducting new polls and research, throughout the weekend and into early next week, in an effort to gain a better understanding of the political fallout, particularly in key contests that will determine whether the party can win back its House majority and maintain its narrow control of the Senate.

A longtime adviser said the only way Biden would even consider stepping aside — a move that is still very much an open question — is if he was presented serious data showing that he would not only likely lose his reelection bid, but also endanger down-ballot candidates in House, Senate and competitive local races across the country.

If Biden were to reverse course and leave the race, one senior Democratic adviser to the campaign told CNN, “A true succession plan does not exist.”

Atlanta Journal Constitution Editorial Board calls on Biden to drop out of race

From CNN’s Sara Smart
June 29, 2024, presidential election news | CNN Politics (4)

President Joe Biden speaks during a debate with former President Donald Trump at CNN's Atlanta studios on June 27.

TheAtlanta Journal Constitution Editorial Board has calledon President Joe Biden to withdraw from the race, citing his performance in Thursday’s CNN debate.

The board’s opinion follows a similar call from the New York Times Editorial Board —a bleak sign for the president’s campaign, which has faced alarm bells since the debate. Some top Democrats have even questioned whether Biden can stay atop of the party’s ticket.

The AJC editorial board called Biden’s debate performance “excruciating” and said he “failed to convey a competent and coherent vision for the future of America.”

Keisha Lance Bottoms, Biden senior campaign adviser and former Atlanta mayor, slammed the editorial board, arguing it should “let the voters decide.”

Meanwhile, thePhiladelphia Inquirer Editorial Board called on former President Donald Trump to leave the race for the White House following CNN’s debate.

The board said the debate served as a reminder of what another four years of Trump would look like — “More lies, grievance, narcissism, and hate.”

The board argued that “Biden on his worst day remains lightyears better than Trump on his best.”

Biden tells donors at New Jersey fundraiser he'll fight "harder" after debate

From CNN's Arlette Saenz

President Joe Biden sought to reassure donors after his halting debate performance, saying at at a New Jersey fundraiser Saturday that he will fight “harder” in the campaign.

“It wasn’t my best debate ever, as Barack pointed out,” Biden said, according to reporters traveling with the president, adding that he understands concerns over his candidacy following Thursday’s performance.

The president told donors he has a “helluva lot of plans for the next four years —God willing.”

Biden was introduced by the evening’s host, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, who described the president as “America’s comeback kid.”

The fundraiser in Red Bank, New Jersey, which included around 50 people, brought in $3.7 million, according to the governor’s wife, Tammy Murphy.

Supporters cheer as President Joe Biden speaks at a campaign rally in Raleigh, North Carolina, on June. 28.

President Joe Biden’s campaign chair, Jen O’Malley Dillon, released a memo Saturday pushing back on those “counting Joe Biden out” while acknowledging that November’s election will be close.

O’Malley Dillon stressed that the election will be won by “making our case to (voters) about just how high the stakes are and who is fighting for them.”

She pointed to metrics the campaign believes are on its side and attempted to preemptively rebut any potential dips in polling down the road.

O’Malley Dillon said the Biden campaign saw an uptick in battleground state volunteer sign-ups and job applications in the 24 hours after the debate.

Biden seeks to reassure donors as he acknowledges he didn't have a great debate night

From CNN's Betsy Klein

President Joe Biden conceded to donors in East Hampton, New York, that he “didn’t have a great night” at the CNN presidential debate Thursday, but sought to reassure his supporters that his candidacy is on track by comparing his performance to that of his predecessor.

The Saturday remarks come as some Democratic donors express deep concern about the president’s path forward. Biden and his team remain adamant that he is not going anywhere.

Biden for the first time publicly acknowledged the New York Times editorial board’s Friday call for him to step aside, according to journalists in attendance, but said the Times also noted that former President Donald Trump lied throughout the debate.

CNN fact checked the debate and found that Trump made more than 30 false claims during Thursday’s event, far more than Biden.

Biden said voters should not compare him to the Almighty, but to the alternative, adding, “That’s not a hard fight.”

High-profile hosts: The event was hosted by billionaire Barry Rosenstein and his wife Lizanne; actors Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollan (who were not in attendance); and Stacey and Eric Mindich, the Broadway producer and private-sector investment company leader.

John Avlon, the former CNN anchor who won a New York congressional primary last week, was also in attendance, as was former Trump communications director Anthony Scaramucci, who shared a hug with White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley speaks at an event in Washington, DC, on May 22.

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley said she had a“goodconversation” with former President Donald Trump about a week ago, when she reached out to him for the first time since she dropped out of the race to personally offer her support, The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday.

Haley, whoexited the presidential racein March, said the two did not discuss a campaign role or her participation in theRepublican National Convention in Milwaukee next month, according to the newspaper.

Haley on replacing Biden: Her call with Trump came before the first 2024 presidential debate, which has raised questions among Democrats over whether President Joe Biden should stay in the race due to a poor showing.

Haley said Republicans should prepare for the Democratic Party to choose a“younger”and more“vibrant”candidate to replace Biden, according to newspaper.

She said replacing Biden on the ticket would be“forthe good of the country,” and she predicted congressional losses if Democrats stick with the president as their nominee.

Remember: Haley, who was Trump’s US ambassador to the United Nations, was the last of a dozen major candidates whom Trump vanquished in a GOP primary that he dominated from start to finish. In May, she announced she planned to vote for Trump, saying he “has not been perfect” but that Biden “has been a catastrophe.”

Haley hasfrequently taken digsat Biden and Trump over their age, arguing they are both too old to serve another four years as president.

Attendee says DNC glossed over Biden's debate performance in "pretty standard hype call"

From CNN's Betsy Klein
June 29, 2024, presidential election news | CNN Politics (7)

President Joe Biden speaks during the presidential debate at CNN's Atlanta studios on June 27.

The Democratic National Committee largely glossed over President Joe Biden’s poor debate performance during a call Saturday afternoon with its members and leadership, according to one attendee.

The call, which included Chairman Jaime Harrison and Biden campaign manager Julie Chávez Rodriguez, was a “pretty standard hype call,” according to RL Miller, a climate activist and California DNC member, who described the call in a series of posts on X.

Miller said that Harrison acknowledged that Biden did not debate well, and quoted the president’s assertion that while he is no longer young, he knows how to tell the truth and knows right from wrong.

DNC spokesperson Hannah Muldavin told CNN the call was part of a regular quarterly convening of its members to share updates on the state of the campaign. Harrison provided updates on the Biden campaign’s fundraising —a bright spot —organizing, and robust phone banking and texting efforts, Muldavin said.

Some protesters urge Biden to drop out as he arrives at East Hampton fundraiser

From CNN's Betsy Klein

President Joe Biden has arrived at the site of an East Hampton fundraiser, according to reporters traveling with the president.

Just before arriving, reporters said the motorcade passed a group of people holding signs that read: “Please drop out for U.S.,” “Thank you next,” “Step down for democracy” and “We love you but it’s time.”

Biden has already made one stop in the tony New York enclave. The meeting earlier Saturday was a more intimate setting for high-dollar donors, according to one source familiar with the event, and was scheduled well before the debate.

Biden campaign works to keep party in lockstep

From CNN's Jeff Zeleny

President Joe Biden’s campaign has worked feverishly behind the scenes to keep the Democratic wagons circled around the president, with advisers taking note of any current or former elected officials speaking ill of the president or publicly suggesting he should step aside.

Former Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin, who served alongside Biden in the Senate for decades, dashed off a pointed letter to friends after the debate.

“All incumbent Democratic Senators should write to Biden asking him to release his delegates and step aside so the convention can choose a new candidate,” Harkin wrote, according to a copy of the letter obtained by CNN. “A couple of Governors may need to do the same.”

Harkin, 84, said there was still time for a course correction and a new Democratic ticket, which he believes “would energize the party at all levels and capture the general public’s attention – many of whom would like an alternative to Trump.”

Obama urges party to stay united: At a fundraising event in New York on Friday, where former President Barack Obama was raising money for House Democrats, whispers rippled through the crowd over whether Obama could implore Biden to step aside for the good of the party. Obama did not entertain such a notion during his brief remarks, focusing instead on the need for the party to stay unified, energized and focused on drawing a sharp contrast between Democratic and Republican rule.

For years, the relationship between Obama and Biden and their circle of advisers was strained by Obama’s decision to support Hillary Clinton’s presidential bid in 2015 and urge his former vice president not to run. This moment “is even more fraught,” one longtime Obama adviser said Saturday.

The DNC is holding a call today: The Democratic National Committee will hold a call with members Saturday afternoon, a source familiar with the plan said. The call, which will include DNC Chair Jaime Harrison, will “recap Thursday night’s debate,” and also feature discussion of DNC updates and voter mobilization efforts.

President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden arrive at Francis S. Gabreski Airport in Westhampton Beach, New York, before traveling to East Hampton on June 29.

President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden have arrived in East Hampton, New York, where the president will attend a pair of fundraisers as he plots a path forward from his debate performance — and disappointed donors could air their grievances.

Biden is notably joined bycampaign co-chair Jeffrey Katzenberg, who was spotted by a reporter boarding Air Force One at LaGuardia Airport in New York City, where Biden attended events Friday.

Two of the president’s granddaughters, Finnegan (Hunter Biden’s daughter) and Natalie (Beau Biden’s daughter) are also traveling, according to the pool report.

Marine One touched down in East Hampton just before 1:30 p.m. ET, and the president held hands with the first lady as they walked to their SUV, which made the short drive to the first fundraising site, 60 Further Lane.

The campaign later said the president had arrived at a “campaign meeting.” CNN has reached out for more information. Per reporters traveling with Biden, the motorcade is at the home of Avram and Jill Glazer. Avram Glazer is a businessman who is an owner of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is co-chairman and director of Manchester United.

Democrats conducting polls to determine damage for Biden — and the ticket — following debate

From CNN's Jeff Zeleny

The waves of panic coursing through the Democratic Party in the wake of President Joe Biden’s alarming debate performance have left party elders and officials scrambling this weekend to answer two distinct questions:

  • Will Biden drag down the entire ticket, particularly in critical House and Senate races?
  • If not him at the top of the ticket, then who?

“A true succession plan does not exist,” a senior Democratic adviser to the Biden campaign told CNN on Saturday. “That’s what makes all of this not just heartbreaking, but very problematic.”

New research is being conducted by Democrats throughout the weekend and into early next week in an effort to gain a deeper picture at the extent of the political fallout, particularly in key contests that will determine whether the party can win back its House majority and maintain its narrow control of the Senate.

A second longtime adviser said the only way Biden would even consider stepping aside — a move that is still very much an open question — is if he was presented serious data showing he would not only likely lose his reelection bid, but also endanger House, Senate and competitive local races across the country.

The Biden campaign has long had polling that found Democrats would still support down-ballot candidates even if they didn’t vote for Biden. If the president’s debate setback would make some of these voters far less inclined to vote at all — handing a turnout advantage to Donald Trump and Republicans — Biden could be confronted with a starker reality.

Here’s what a CNN poll found following the debate:

Biden campaign raises $27 million on debate day and Friday

From CNN's Arlette Saenz

President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden attend a campaign rally in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Friday, June 28.

President Joe Biden’s campaign raised more than $27 million across Thursday, the day of the first presidential debate, and Friday, according to a campaign official.

The campaign is looking to highlight fundraising bright spots even as angst grows among some in the donor class following the president’s poor performance at the CNN debate.

The president is expected to speak at two fundraisers in the Hamptons in New York and one in Red Bank, New Jersey, this afternoon.

Barry Rosenstein, the host of one of the fundraisers in the Hamptons, told CNN he is expecting more than 200 attendees, and he said more donations for the event came in Friday morning after the debate.

The two-day fundraising haul announced Saturday comes on the heels of Biden raising roughly $40 million over five days earlier this month, which included major fundraisers with former President Barack Obama in Los Angeles and former President Bill Clinton in Virginia.

Trump closing the gap: Even before his shaky debate performance, Biden was facing a key fundraising test at month’s end, after raising $85 million between his campaign and joint Democratic fundraising committees in May.

Donald Trump raised $141 million that same month, eroding the financial advantage Biden had for most of the cycle.

Mark Cuban: It’s time for Democrats to explore replacing Biden

From CNN's MJ Lee

Billionaire businessman Mark Cuban, who has declared his support for President Joe Biden, told CNN on Saturday that Democrats must consider whether Biden can be replaced as the party’s presumptive nominee.

“It’s time to do polling and find out if there are any potential replacements that poll higher than (former President Donald) Trump,” Cuban said on the heels of Biden’s rough performance at CNN’s presidential debate Thursday night.

Trump “also polls poorly,” Cuban said, adding that if Democrats can find a replacement for Biden who can “step in and immediately change the race, that’s worth considering.”

Still, Cuban — who had previously supported former Republican South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley in the 2024 race — acknowledged that trying to replace the Democratic nominee this late in the cycle would be a Herculean task.

Cuban attended a Dallas fundraiser for Biden in March. His decision to start supporting Biden after backing Haley was notable, given the Biden campaign’s concerted efforts to woo supporters of the former United Nations ambassador who find Trump unacceptable.

In a poston X Friday, Cuban had described Biden’s performance on the debate stage as “feeble” and “awful,” but committed to “still voting for Biden” if the president ultimately stays on the ticket.

CNN previously reported that business leaders are alarmed after Biden’s debate performance, but they ultimately are opposed to Trump, according to “CEO whisperer” and Yale professor Larry Sonnenfeld, with some also telling him that Biden should step aside.

Trump campaign managers outline plans to cut down the length of GOP platform

From CNN's Steve Contorno

Former President Donald Trump speaks during a rally on June 28, in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Top advisers to Donald Trump are plotting an overhaul of the Republican Party platform that will dramatically slash its size and refocus the GOP around the former president’s agenda for a second term.

A memo from Trump campaign managers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles dated Thursday criticized past platforms as too long and heavily influenced by special interests and outside groups. A “clear, concise and easily digestible” platform will make it easier for voters to understand and harder for political opponents to attack, they wrote.

The memo, obtained Saturday by CNN, was first reported by the New York Times.

The party’s most recent platform, crafted in 2016 and reapproved in 2020, spans 66 pages. A person familiar with the planning said the goal for the upcoming platform is a concise document that is “a couple dozen pages,” written in more clear language and will likely reflect Trump’s top priorities.

Hot-button issues ahead of convention: The memo comes amid intensifying anxiety from conservative groups over the direction of the platform ahead of next month’s Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. There is especially concern among anti-abortion groups that Thursday’s memo is signaling Trump intends to remove the platform’s longstanding commitment to a federal abortion ban and an amendment to the US Constitution giving the unborn the same rights as a person.

The existing platform also lays out the party’s opposition to gay marriage and new gun restrictions, and also embraces changes to Medicare and Social Security for people under age 55 — some of which has become fodder for Democratic messaging in recent election cycles.

President Joe Biden’s incoherent and painful debate performance in Atlanta on Thursday night gave Donald Trump a massive victory in the most pivotal moment of the 2024 campaign so far, as the former president seeks to win a non-consecutive second term and pull off a stunning political comeback.ck.

Hours later, a US Supreme Court ruling that the Justice Department overstepped in charging January 6 Capitol rioters handed the presumptive Republican nominee what he immediately hailed on social media as a “BIG WIN.” The 6-3 decision was a symbolic victory for the ex-president the day after he used the debate to try to whitewash theworst attack on democracy in modern times.

There could also be legal ramifications, with some scholars arguing the ruling could narrow the scope of Trump’s federal election interference trial, even if special counsel Jack Smith believes his case can proceed unaffected. President Joe Biden speaks at a campaign rally on June 28, in Raleigh, North Carolina.

White House senior adviser Anita Dunn admitted President Joe Biden’s performance during the first presidential debate was lackluster, but noted his administration’s achievements since taking office and argued he is the best candidate to defeat former President Donald Trump.

“I would just tend to say it wasn’t his greatest debate, but it is 90 minutes in a campaign, and in an administration, where he has achieved enormous things — so maybe it wasn’t a great debate, but he has been a great president,” Dunn said in an interview on MSNBC.

She said Biden is the sole candidate who can defeat Trump in November.

Dunn also said the Biden campaign is focused on getting the message out to the American people about how Biden wants to preserve abortion rights and cares about a litany of issues such as immigration.

Dunn’s remarks come after widespread concern among Democratic lawmakers and donors following Biden’s shaky debate performance. The New York Times editorial board also called on Biden to leave the presidential race on Friday.

Biden himself acknowledged his weak performance on Friday during a more energized campaign rally in North Carolina, saying, “I know I’m not a young man. I don’t walk as easily as I used to. I don’t talk as smoothly as I used to. I don’t debate as well as I used to, but I know what I do know: I know how to tell the truth. I know right from wrong. And I know how to do this job. I know how to get things done.”

Trump’s statements on Ukraine during presidential debate "worrying," Ukrainian politician says

Oleksiy Goncharenko speaks during the Black Sea Security Forum on June 15, in Odesa, Ukraine.

Former President Donald Trump’s statements about Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine during Thursday’s presidential debate were “worrying,”Ukrainian politician Oleksiy Goncharenko said Saturday.

“Definitely what Mr. Trump is saying, some of his quotes are very worrying for us,”the Ukrainian member of Parliament said in an interview with CNN.

“But, I’d say it’s not equal, what he says and what he will do,” he added.

He added that it was unclear what Trump meant when he said he would end the war between Russia and Ukraine. Trump has repeatedly claimed that if he were president, Russian President Vladimir Putin would’ve never invaded Ukraine.

“If Mr. Trump means that if he will become president, he will make Putin leave Ukraine, just applause from me. If he means that if he will win the elections, he will abandon Ukraine and Putin could take Ukraine, then I just want to tell you that will be the worst thing, not just for Ukraine, but for US security, because it will mean that United States lost the war, lost this big money in weaponry which was sent, lost its position of the world leader,” he said.

Goncharenko said that regardless of the election outcome, it was important that the US public understand support for Ukraine was in their national strategic interest since money and weapons supplied to the front lines were being used “against the Russian Federation, which openly calls the United States its biggest enemy, and they are one of the biggest rivals of the United States.”

Trump, who is only three years younger than Biden, continued arguing that Biden is not too old to be president and instead said he was “incompetent.”

“Joe Biden’s problem is not his age; it’s not his anything really, he’s got no problem other than it’s his competence, he’s grossly incompetent. You know, they keep saying old, I know people that are much older than him that are doing unbelievable things,” Trump said.

Vice President Kamala Harris speaks during a campaign rally on June 28, in Las Vegas.

Vice President Kamala Harris acknowledged President Joe Biden’s debate performance Thursday night “was not his best” but outlined three contrasts between him and Donald Trump while courting Latino voters during her first post-debate campaign stop in Nevada.

“Last night, President Joe Biden and Donald Trump had their first debate, and earlier today the president said himself it was not his best performance. But there are three things that were true yesterday before the debate that are still true today. Let’s level set on this,” Harris said to a crowd in Las Vegas on Friday.

Harris blasted Trump for what she referred to as a “nonstop stream of lies” during his debate performance, pointing to some of the more than 30 false claims he made last night. And she reminded voters that Biden narrowly won the battleground state in 2020.

“Let’s not forget he beat Donald Trump once, and in Nevada with your help. We’re going to do it again,” Harris said.

Harris highlighted the stakes for Latinos in the upcoming election, emphasizing issues such as women’s reproductive rights, the economy and upholding democracy.During her roughly 12-minute remarks, she urged Nevadans to vote in November, emphasizing the weight they hold in the election.

“I don’t speak as smoothly as I used to. I don’t debate as well as I used to,”Biden said, smiling as the crowd cheered. “But I know what I do know: I know how to tell the truth.”

The president said he had given his word “as a Biden that I wouldn’t run again if I didn’t believe with all my heart and soul I could do this job.”

“Yes you can!” the crowd chanted.

Biden came out forcefully against Trump, calling the former president a “genuine threat to this nation. He’s a threat to our freedom, he’s a threat to our democracy, he’s literally a threat for everything America stands for.”
