About the Minnesota Lottery

The Minnesota Lottery was founded through a voter initiative in 1989, and the first tickets, including Powerball, went on sale in 1990. The lottery added Mega Millions in 2010.

Since the lottery launched, profits from tickets have brought in over $3 billion for state programs. Most of these funds benefit the state's health services, local government, public safety services, and educational initiatives. A large proportion also goes toward natural resources and parks.
